Is a Cape Cod Shed Right for You?

Coordinate the Shed
With Your Home.

Cape Cod Sheds use a balanced, symmetrical, residential-inspired front. They work best in visible settings near the house, driveway, garden, or pool when you want the shed to coordinate with the property without becoming its most decorative feature.

Start with your intended use—office, studio, garden, pool, storage, or hobby space—then choose size, layout, doors, windows, siding, colors, trim, and roof. For more decorative trim and stronger window character, compare Victorian Sheds.

Balance the front. Plan the purpose.

Cape Cod Shed with a symmetrical, residential-inspired front A balanced look for a visible site

Three Simple Steps to Your Cape Cod Shed

Start with how you will use the shed and where it will sit, then coordinate its balanced front with your home and property.

1

Choose the Site and Use

Tell Glen where the shed will be seen and whether it will serve as storage, office, studio, garden, pool, or hobby space.

2

Plan the Balanced Front

Choose size, layout, doors, windows, siding, colors, trim, and roofing for the residential-inspired look you want.

3

Confirm Build and Delivery

Review your selections and prepare the site while your shed is built in the Shipshewana shop.

Custom sheds typically take approximately two to four weeks. Free delivery is available within 20 miles of the Shipshewana shop; ask Glen about delivery outside that area.

Put a Cape Cod Shed to Work

Choose a home-coordinated exterior for a visible site, then plan the layout and openings around the job the shed needs to do.

Backyard Office

Place doors and windows around a desk, storage, and the separation you want from the house.

Creative Studio

Arrange windows and floor space around art, craft, or maker projects.

Garden Storage

Keep tools, pots, and seasonal supplies near the landscape they support.

Poolside Organization

Store towels, toys, furniture, and seasonal pool gear close to the pool.

Household Storage

Plan access and floor space for bulky belongings, bins, and seasonal items.

Hobby Space

Choose room for supplies, a work surface, and movement between projects.

Construction and Finish Details

Know What Goes
Into Your Shed.

Family-owned since 1995, Slabaugh’s builds every Cape Cod Shed from start to finish in one Shipshewana shop, with Glen involved in each project. These four points make the material choices and coverage easier to compare.

01

Premium 2 × 4 Framing

Premium-grade 2 × 4 walls are framed 16 inches on center, and custom trusses are built from premium-grade 2 × 4 lumber.

02

Plywood, Never OSB

Plywood is used in the floor system and wherever sheet materials are required. Slabaugh’s uses no OSB or pressed board.

03

Finish and Roof Choices

Paint or stain finishes receive three coats before delivery, and you can choose metal or shingle roofing.

04

Exterior Material Warranties

Coverage depends on your selections: barn paint includes a 15-year fade warranty; siding and trim, a 50-year warranty; shingles, a lifetime warranty; and metal roofing, a 40-year finish warranty. Ask Glen which coverage applies.

Choose Your Cape Cod Shed Details

Make each selection around the shed’s intended use and the home, yard, garden, or pool area it should complement.

Use, Size & Layout

List what must fit, how you will use the space, and where each activity belongs.

Doors & Windows

Arrange openings for access and daylight while keeping the front balanced and residential-inspired.

Siding, Color & Trim

Compare wood or vinyl siding, custom colors, and trim with your home’s exterior.

Roof Choice

Choose metal or shingle roofing and coordinate its appearance with the property.
